Report Review
Have you bought anything from this store? If yes were the prices competitive? Yes, I went looking for some 100% cotton denim to match the denim lace I got from Marcy Tilton's site, some red Ambiance lining for my upcoming bomber jacket and some fuchs...

They are the local Bernina dealer. The man who repairs the sewing machines is stellar and reasonable, though Bernina prices are like buying a Bentley. I was sad to see the store downsize from the many stores at its zenith to its current size. The location is convenient to where I live, but surprisingly I purchase a lot of my fabric online. I also want to make a trip up to NYC garment district sometime. I ordered some fabric and was talking with the person from the company because what was on the website was not what they actually had in stock. He remembered visiting G Street when it was at at a prior location on Rockville Pike. My husband, daughter and I all took classes there. I think I got more out of my daughter's class than she did. I ended up making a bunch of clothes for her based on the examples she brought back w/o a pattern and then a costume for a party she attended when she was 9 or 10.

I used to shop the store in Virginia when I lived there. I loved it. I still have fabric stashed away from there. Miss a real fabric store. Originally from Phila Pa area would shop 4th St Fabric Center

I had a few free hours on the last trip east, and went there. Much smaller than in 2005. They have moved from the place on Rockville Pike to another location in the area. The upholstery/drapery area seemed pretty big. They had a table piled high with ponte knit and a table piled high with rolls of chiffon, and a fair amount of shirting and linen, as well as a wall with bolts of quilting cotton. Unfortunately, I was looking to find fabric to make kitchen curtains out of, and maybe fabric for a blazer. So, disappointed this time. It happens.

When I went with hubby who had Dept of Defense week there, I took the bus from downtown right to the strip mall is. I had been waiting since 1980's to get there, which was around 1997. I thought I died and went to heaven. I got coordinating burn out velvet on ombre chiffon/organza.Dark blues to small areas of gold, very subdued. I got the matching silk satin blue with milder print on it. I made a sleeveless close fitting dress with a flared coat same length. I wore it to our wedding ceremony.I also found a wonderful pile(s) of leather and fur. I bought a luxurious curly black sheepskin that I still carry around with me today like Linus's blanket. While the world went to the monuments, I went to G Street Fabrics. I am super glad I had the chance to visit there while it was still a mecca for me.

Thanks! Next time I go to Maryland I think I will leave some extra space in my luggage.

I think consolidating the fabric from the Virginia and Maryland stores helped. I agree things look better at the latest location.

I liked the one in Centerville because it was easy to park there. This is a nice improvement from the previous incarnation.

Thanks for the review! I used to go to the G St in Falls Church and I agree with your comments about it going downhill. Since they moved out to Rockville, I haven't been there, but now I am a lot more motivated to check it out!
