Fort Joy – Braccus Rex’s Tower

Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide: Fort Joy - Braccus Rex’s Tower (1)

Step 1

In this chamber, the first, and most obvious, thing to note is that you are not alone. Assuming you didn’t destroy the Soul Jars that you picked up in the Dark Cavern, which you shouldn’t have, you will see a group of three Necromancers with some pretty familiar names. They will not be immediately hostile when you enter the tower. You can speak with them, and if you are particularly good at persuasion you can convince them that they stand no chance against you. If you do so, they will ask you to destroy their Soul Jars so that they can finally die. Alternatively, you can kill them, but without destroying their Soul Jars they will come back to life. Either way, you are going to want to destroy the Soul Jars and let them get to the final rest. I should also note that entering the tower itself will commence the quest A Fate Worse Than Death.

To destroy them you can either put them on the ground and attack them, or you can use them from your inventory. I prefer this method as it gives a brief overview of the personality of each of the necromancers and your group will get a discussion about whether their actions in life were justified or not. Once all three Soul Jars have been destroyed, loot the bodies of the Necromancers and we can carry on our way. DO NOT DESTROY GRATIANA’S SOULJAR. I just thought that was important to note. Also Sech Zapor’s Soul Jar is used for a different quest so hang onto it for now. You will find a key to the next room on the body of Necromancer Tamsyn. Killing the necromancers will also end the quest A Fate Worse Than Death. This stage is a little bit similar to Elven Caverns and Prison.

Step 2

In this room you should see a small lake of fire near a closed and locked door, a glowy shielded door on the far side of the room, and another side chamber to the east. We are first going to focus on the fire pit and locked door situation. You should notice a button in the pit. As you should expect by now, it is just begging for you to step or place an object on it. One thing you might want to take into account, is that whatever you place on it is going to be affected by a barrage of fireballs. I would definitely lean towards something with either a lot of magical armor, or a lot of health.Once you have moved your group, or even just a character into the open door, you should find yourself face to face with a metal crate blocking a sewer drain. Simply toss it out of the way, preferably in front of the dragon head that is shooting fireballs towards the button, and then hop into the grate.Once you are done in room (3) you should head to the eastmost room (4).After room (4) obviously you will have to make your way towards room (5), whereupon you will be stopped by a giant magic shield. To open this towering translucent wall, talk to the glowing relic to the left of the door.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide: Fort Joy - Braccus Rex’s Tower (3)

If you touch the relic you will be cursed. You can then try to throw a rock at the relic, but unsurprisingly it is not particularly effective. You can try normal magic against the device, but while you do have an effect, it is negligible and it turns out you need even greater power to breath the defenses of the device. Its going to require some source power to break down the door. You should do so and then head on inside. Also, Withermoore is supposed to show up here and open the door if you have helped him, but he didn’t on my last play through. Oh well, you don’t need him to open the door. Don’t search for some tunnels. Head directly into room (5).

After you have looted area (5) of all its valuables head to the North-East Corner of this room where you will find a rather large door that leads into a cave with a well (6).

You will find yourself in a lovely little chamber, that looks like it was some sort of secret study for someone. There are a bunch of treasures and shelves for you to pick through, so once you are done looting to your heart’s content, simply hit the lever in the middle of the room. This will actually stop the fireball barrage, making room (2) a much safer place to traverse.

Step 4

There is one major thing to note in this room and that is the steel-banded chest in the corner of the chamber. Quite simply, it is cursed. You are going to want to use Bless on it before opening it like what you did at the stage of Arena, but inside you should find the Devourer’s Claws. This is part of the quest A Hunger From Beyond. Speak with the voice and it will tell you that you will speak again in a place of longing.

You can simply loot the rest of the room, there are a few items like the jar of mind maggots that are worth a bunch of gold. You can also pick up a book on the legend of the blood rose, which is something that I will cover a bit later when we actually can get a blood rose.

There is also a zombie in this room that will attack you if you enter the torture cell on the south side of the room. It is really easy to kill so it’s barely worth mentioning.

Step 5

This room has two sarcophagi, two chests, and a rather prominent vase. The vase can sometimes have a source spell in it, so it is worth checking. You will need eighteen strength to open either sarcophagus. The left one is empty, and the right one has a poison trap in it. But more importantly it also holds the Hands of the Tyrant. This should be the fifth and final piece of the Tyrant Set, and will end the quest Artefacts of the Tyrant. You can now wear the set without enduring the horrific curses. Loot the rest of the room and then we have one final area to visit while we are here.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide: Fort Joy - Braccus Rex’s Tower (6)

Step 6

If you speak with the well, it will request that you provide it with water. An odd request for a well, whose purpose is to provide water, but oh well. Cast rain, use a water balloon, or break a bucket of water on the well to grant its wish.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Guide: Fort Joy - Braccus Rex’s Tower (7)

Talk to the well again and you will find out that its denizens, much like most of the creatures on this horrible island, were also cursed by Braccus Rex. I am beginning to think he was not a particularly good guy. Anyways they will ask for fare for their burial. Give them the most money you can. The more money you give the better item you will get in return. The higher your particular level, the higher level item will be given to you, so leaving this particular event until just before you are going to leave Fort Joy forever can be worthwhile. If you don’t care that much, just give them the cash now and enjoy your new loot. As a side note, each character can give them gold and get an item. So effectively you can get four great items for a fairly marginal cost.

I was introduced to the world of gaming at a pretty young age. My dad would invite his friends over, and they would descend into the basem*nt for hours. At first, I was too young to really grasp the games they were playing; Dungeons and Dragons, Ravenloft, Greyhawk. But it was when they began to shift their focus to computer games, that I became really interested.
